Miquel Barceló is a theatre artist born in Mallorca and based in Co. Galway, Ireland.
He started theatre at the age of eight in his native city of Palma and he hasn't stopped since then. Trained at École Internationale de théâtre Jacques Lecoq (Paris), he has worked in theatre over the past 30 years.
Specialised in Physical Theatre, Children, Street, ArtsDisability & Community Arts, he has toured extensively in Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, UK, Holland, USA, Turkey and Australia.
HIS WORK
His main focus is performing, directing and researching new inclusive pedagogical approaches to theatre.
He has devoted half of his life to the Art of Theatre, creating his own performances, collaborating with professional theatre companies, teaching theatre and developing community projects. He has developed an intensive workshop programme with Youth Ensembles and theatre for children in schools. While also embarking in a long research for the creation of a theatre practice for children and adults with complex needs.
He has embraced all indoor & outdoor formats such as street, site-specific, public spaces and theatres, and engaged in projects for all abilities, ages and ethnicities.
The spirit of celebration and a democratic view of the craft has been at the forefront of all his endeavours.
Through the years he has worked with theatre companies Teatro Punto, The Gombeens, Branar, Macnas, Curious State and Manifesto Poetico.
In Arts&Disability with Blue Teapot Theatre Company, That’s Life and Arts Alive. He's been a tutor for NAYD ( Irish National Association Youth Drama) and mask tutor at the Dublin Theatre School The Lir.

CREATIVE PHILOSOPHY
His craft is in constant research of a creativity that follows the movement of life and sets a dialogue between the artist and its audience. He aims for the creation of a collective, festive and inclusive space for all spheres of society.
The universal language of physical theatre is the main instrument of all his work and the audience not a mere spectator but a close companion of all his theatre journeys.
In his work the comical, the poetical and
the acrobatic meet the social and the irreverent.
His main inspiration remains in the highly-skilled and multidisciplinary craft of jesters, fools, minstrels and travelling troubadours. Deeply rooted in the tradition while always reaching for new aesthetics that talk to the evolving audience.

MUSIC
Music and instruments are an intrinsic part of all his creations and projects.
Both as a performer and a composer, his music reveals itself to the audience as a melody, a rhythm, a song, a tune, a soundscape, an ambience, an acrobatic devise and a character.
